Stephen and Deanna have been married for 20 years. Over that time, they have co-written curriculum for struggling stepfamilies and led the Stepfamily Life Ministry at Saddleback Church which included developing stepfamily-centric small groups and implementing a multi-campus model of stepfamily ministry. They have also taught hundreds of stepfamily couples in a classroom environment as well as mentoring couples two-on-two.
Understanding that not every hurting stepfamily will walk into the local church for help, Steve and Deanna founded Merged Family Initiative, a 501(c)(3), in order to provide information, resources, and community to those who need help merging their stepfamily. They hope that through Merged, they will be able to reach stepfamilies of all shapes and sizes, regardless of religious affiliation.
Making a shift from ministry to mainstream, both Steve and Deanna decided to go back to school to pursue their BS degrees in Psychology, with Minors in Christian Counseling. Steve is currently pursuing his MFT at Azusa Pacific University while Deanna is a life coach with an emphasis on stepfamilies.
They live in Orange County, CA and together have 4 daughters, 3 sons-in-law, and 7 grandchildren. When they are not doing homework, they enjoy traveling the world and meeting new people.
